Michael Fraser
Best time :- 9.66 sec and 138 mph or 222 kph
Michael used to fit his various bikes –
both street and his purpose built drag bike - in Ron Collett’s
bus (along side Ron’s Top Alcohol Dragster) and travel the long trip
North to Hastings’ CRC Thunder park. Racing his Yamaha XJ900 in the early
1990’s, Michael ran a best of 11.70 on
the Yamaha, including an 11.702 on an 11.700 dial-in!
In 1983 Earl Nunn built the
bike with a V6 Outboard engine
fitted. In 1988 Murray Buckingham and Kevin Braid ran the bike with a 1545cc
“Supervee” engine (aftermarket Harley style engine we understand). The bike
then went to Alex Patterson, whom unfortunately never ran the bike. Michael
started drag racing his lowered blue 1980 GSX1100 ET in the 1992/1993
season, and then got hold of this bike, fitted a 1298cc block to his GSX1100
engine
and started racing it in A/Dragbike at the end of 1993.
Michael and Julia’s first son Jared came along in 1994, and the race bike got put away for another day. Their second son Lewis came along in 1997, and the bike is still in the garage, but we understand Michael is getting staging lane nerves again – hopefully we will see him and his bike on the track again soon!
