Barry MacAskill
Best time:- 9.30 sec at 148 mph or 238.18 kph
Barry started racing
in 1982 on a GSX1100 Katana street bike and then a FJ 1100 Yamaha. He was fully
bitten when
the
Pro Stock bike of John Conelly turned up at Teretonga Drag strip. So by 1987 the
work of building a dragbike was under way. In 1989 the bike was run with the
motor stock returning times of mid 10's. Then came the piston kits cams and head
work, wider rear tyre and less weight. In 1990 running on Methanol He got down
to 9.8 sec at 140 mph. To get the never ending quicker time He put the bike back
on petrol and added Nitrous Oxide, resulting in 9.30 sec at 148 mph, but the
cost was becoming just too great ie 4 broken gearboxes, run bearings and the
last straw a terminal engine explosion. But thanks to engine builder Stu Kennedy
finding another motor the bike will run another season, this time back to
methanol and no Nitrous.
